Construction Supervision

Summary

During the reporting period 104.55m of Evacuation Tunnel and 151.55m of Main Tunnel Top Heading was excavated, giving a total length of 2022.65m of Evacuation Tunnel and 1960.37m of Main Tunnel Top Heading excavated to date.

Cross passage No. 6 was excavated.

Bench excavation continued with 138.16m being excavated on the West Side and 129.7m excavated on the East Side.

Tunnel lining continued with 333.22m of tunnel completed.

Excavation of the Electrostatic Precipitator continued with 75.44m excavated.

Tunnel lining was slightly down due to there being no waterproof membrane on site from the 11/3/03 until the 17/3/03.

Overall a good months progress with time gained against the original clause 14 construction schedule.  The Main Tunnel is four weeks behind schedule and Evacuation Tunnel nine weeks.

Evacuation Tunnel

A total of 104.55m of Evacuation Tunnel was excavated from St. 1+918.1 to St. 2+022.65 over the reporting period. Giving a total length of 2022.65m of tunnel excavated to date. The items carried out during the month can be quantified as follows:

Explosive:                                          6395 kg

Shotcrete 50mm thickness:                       1750.6 m2

Cross passage No. 6 – excavated 23.4m at St. 1+911.005

Explosive:                                          2025 kg

Shotcrete 100mm thickness:                                170 m2

Main Tunnel

A total of 151.55m of Main Tunnel Top Heading was excavated over the reporting period, giving a total length of 1960.37m of Main Tunnel Top Heading excavated to date.

Face No.7: 151.55m of Top Heading excavated from St. 1+808.82 to St. 1+960.37

Bench excavation 

 – 110.26m of bench excavated from St. 1+302.19 to St. 1+412.45 and 27.9m form St. 1+630 to St. 1+602.1 (West side).

– 129.7m of bench excavated from St. 1+350.9 to St. 1+480.6 (East side)

Electrostatic Precipitator Excavated 75.44m of tunnel from St. 0+087.7 to St. 0+137.78

Tunnel Lining

Concrete for Foundation Beam –147.86m Fr. St. 1+231.015 to St. 1+ 378.875 (West Side)
