Construction Supervision

Summary

During the reporting period 142.85m of Evacuation Tunnel and 160.878m of Main Tunnel Top Heading was excavated, giving a total length of 2165.5m of Evacuation Tunnel and 2121.25m of Main Tunnel Top Heading excavated to date.

Bench excavation continued with 301.05m being excavated on the West Side and 156.3m excavated on the East Side.

Tunnel lining continued with 272.898m of tunnel completed.

Excavation of the Electrostatic Precipitator top heading was completed and bench excavation commenced.

The second main tunnel lining form (formwork No. 2) was removed from the main tunnel and the layby formwork was transported into the first layby, the first layby lining pour is scheduled for early May.

Overall a good months progress with time gained against the original clause 14 construction schedule.  The Main Tunnel is three weeks behind schedule and Evacuation Tunnel nine weeks.

Evacuation Tunnel

A total of 142.85m of Evacuation Tunnel was excavated from St. 2+022.65 to St. 2+165.5 over the reporting period. Giving a total length of 2165.5m of tunnel excavated to date. The items carried out during the month can be quantified as follows:

Explosive:                                          9140 kg

Shotcrete 50mm thickness:                       1224.6 m2

Main Tunnel

A total of 160.878m of Main Tunnel Top Heading was excavated over the reporting period, giving a total length of 2121.25m of Main Tunnel Top Heading excavated to date.

Face No.7:  160.878m of Top Heading excavated from St. 1+960.37 to St. 2+121.25

Bench excavation

– 301.05m of bench excavated from St. 1+412.45 to St. 1+713.5 (West side).

– 156.3m of bench excavated from St. 1+480.6 to St. 1+636.9 (East side)

Electrostatic Precipitator 

Completed excavation of top heading. 10m from St. 0+137.78 to St. 0+147.78  

Commenced excavation of bench.  67.668m of bench excavated from St. 0+008.582 to St. 0+076.25
